I visited Vietnam for 3 weeks last year. Be careful of pickpockets and motorcylce theives that will snatch your back off your shoulder as they drive by.

It's more important to just be careful of being ripped off when purchasing things. Almost everything from hotel to food to souvineers is negotiable. If you are interested in an item, it's a good rule of thumb to show interest, but wait as long as possible to offer a price. Let the seller offer prices and keep saying no until they begin dropping the price. Then offer something half that price. They usually start by trying to get you to pay 3 to 5 times the price of the good, so you're not way out of line in doing this. Try shopping around a few places before buying anything until you have a good feel for what fair prices are.
