Sa Pa or Sapa (Westernized spelling) is a town and district in the LÃ o Cai province in northwest Vietnam.
The town of Sa Pa is a well-known holiday resort, founded in 1922. It lies at about 1600 meters of altitude. The climate is moderate and rainy in summer (May—August), and foggy and cold with occasional snowfalls in winter.
At about 10 km distance of Sa Pa is the Hoang Lien Son mountain range with the highest mountain of Vietnam, Phan Xi PÄng (Fansipan).
