Head to the north! Hanoi is a beautiful city. While there I'd check out the wter puppet theater. From Hanoi you can also take a tour of Halong bay, which is beautiful. Ninh Binh just south of Hanoi is also worth a visit. If you want to get farther off the beaten track, rent a motor bike and head out into the country. Sapa is a good jumping off point for that.
If you are in the south, I's explore hte mekong delta. If you're in Ho Chi Minh City, take a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels - very impressive. Just don't take the video they show too personally.

So you will go to Vietnam for what? If you come to discover about Vietnamese history , about Vietnam War, you should go to Hanoi first, there are alot of museums in Hanoi- the capital of Vn, and then if you would like to relax, i think Halong - Quang Ninh is the best choice , also Ho Chi Minh city is good, everybody are so nice and pretty .

I'm going to Vietnam in March as well, also for 2.5 weeks. We're seeing Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, HCMC. We've heard the best things about Hanoi and Hoi An. We might cut our time in HCMC short. We're debating whether to go to Angkor Wat, Mui Ne (supposedly great beaches) or both at the end of our trip.

My favorite city is Hue, if you like an ancient feel you should go there.
The best beach is Lang Co, near Hue, you can go there by rented mo-ped
Something that nobody knows: on the way there is an seafood farm, beautifull lagoon, and watterfall called Elephant W.,for fast cool swimm and get something to eat like boiled chicken hehe.
